Managing Exadata Database Services in AWS
After provisioning any Oracle Database@AWS resource, you can use the AWS console for a limited set of management functions.
Common Management Functions from the AWS Console
The following management functions are available for all resources from the AWS console for that resource.
- Access the Resource List
- List Status for All Resources of the Same Type
- Provision a New Resource
- Refresh the Resource List
- Modify a Resource
- Add, Manage, or Delete Tags
- Delete a Resource
- Delete an ODB Network
- Access the OCI Console
- Provision an Exadata Database
- Perform a Connectivity Test
- Obtaining Support for Oracle Database@AWS
- Request a Limit Increase for Oracle Database@AWS
Access the Resource List
These are the steps to view existing resources for Exadata Database Services.
- From the Amazon Web Services (AWS) dashboard, select the Oracle Database@AWS application.
- There are two (2) paths to go to the appropriate resource list.
- From the left menu, select ODB networks, Exadata infrastructures, or Exadata VM clusters.
- From the Create the ODB network panel, the Create the Exadata infrastructure panel, or the Create an Exadata VM cluster panel, select the View list link in that panel.
- Select the resource from the list.
List Status for All Resources of the Same Type
These are the steps to list the status for all resources of the same type.
- Follow the steps to Access the Resource List for the type of object (ODB network, Exadata infrastructure, or Exadata VM cluster) that you wish to view.
- Resources show in the list as Succeeded, Failed, Provisioning, Terminating, or Terminated.
- Access the specifics of that resource by selecting the link in the Name field in the table.
Provision a New Resource
These are the steps to provision a new resource.
- There are two (2) paths to provision a new resource.
- Follow the steps to Access the Resource List for the type of object (ODB network, Exadata infrastructure, or Exadata VM cluster) that you wish to view. At the top of the list, select the Create button.
- From the Oracle Database@AWS dashboard, select the Create button in the appropriate resource panel.
- Follow the provision flow for the resource you want to create.
Refresh the Resource List
These are the steps to refresh a resource list.
- Follow the steps to Access the Resource List for the type of object (ODB network, Exadata infrastructure, or Exadata VM cluster) that you wish to view.
- Select the Refresh icon at the top of the list.
- Wait for the list to reload.
Modify a Resource
These are the steps to modify a resource.
- Follow the steps to Access the Resource List for the type of object (ODB network, Exadata infrastructure, or Exadata VM cluster) that you wish to view.
- Select the object in the list.
- At the top of the page, select the Modify button.
- If there is not a Modify button or the Modify button is not selectable, select the link in the Name field. Select the Modify button on this page. If the Modify button is still inaccessible, the resource is in an unmodifiable state like Provisioning or Terminated.
Add, Manage, or Delete Tags
These are the steps to add, manage, or delete resource tags.
- Follow the steps to Modify a Resource for the type of object (ODB network, Exadata infrastructure, or Exadata VM cluster) that you wish to view.
- Add or delete the tags you want to your resource. NOTE: Tags for ODB networks are not currently supported.
- Select the Continue button when you have added or removed the tags you want.
Delete a Resource
These are the steps to delete a resource.
Use extreme care when deleting resources. Deletion is an irreversible action, and doing so without backups can and will result in data loss. Even with backups, unintended deletion can and will lead to unplanned downtime.
- Follow the steps to Access the Resource List for the type of object (Exadata infrastructure, or Exadata VM cluster) that you wish to view.
- Select the object in the list.
- At the top of the page, select the Delete button.
- If there is not a Delete button or the Delete button is not selectable, select the link in the Name field. Select the Delete button on this page. If the Delete button is still inaccessible, the resource is in an undeletable state like Provisioning or Terminated.
Delete an ODB Network
These are the steps to delete an ODB network from OracleDB@AWS .
- You can click the radio button next to the ODB network you want to delete, and then click the Delete button located on the top-right-hand side.
- You can click the Delete button from the network anchor details page.
Access the OCI Console
These are the steps to access the OCI console.
- Follow the steps to Access the Resource List for the Exadata VM cluster that you wish to view. NOTE: ODB networks are managed within the AWS console. NOTE: Exadata infrastructures are managed from the associated Exadata VM cluster.
- Select the specific resource from the list you wish to access within the OCI console. Select the link in the Exadata infrastructure name or VM cluster name field.
- The Summary page opens.
- Select the Manage in OCI button. This will open the general OCI console.
- To manage an Exadata infrastructure, select the OCI resources tab, and then select the link in the Exadata infrastructure name field.
- To manage an Exadata VM cluster, select the OCI resources tab, and then select the link in the VM cluster name field.
Provision an Exadata Database
These are the steps to provision an Exadata Database
- Follow the steps to Access the OCI console for the Exadata VM cluster where you want to provision your Exadata Database.
- Creating Database Home
- Creating Container Database (CDB)
- Creating Pluggable Database (PDB)
Perform a Connectivity Test
These are the steps to perform a connectivity test.
- Follow the steps to Access the OCI Console for the type of object (ODB network, Exadata infrastructure, or Exadata VM cluster) that you wish to view.
- From the resource's overview page, select the Settings link left-menu, and then the Connections link.
- Select the Download wallet icon and save the file.
- Open Oracle SQL Developer. If you don't have SQL Developer installed, download SQL Developer and install.
- Within SQL Developer, open a new connection with the following information.
- Name - Enter a name of your choice used to save your connection.
- Username - Enter ADMIN.
- Password - Enter the password used when creating the Exadata Database.
- Role - Select default.
- Save Password - Select the box if you security rules allow. If not, you will need to enter the PDB password every time you use this connection in SQL Developer.
- Connection Type - Select Cloud Wallet.
- Configuration File - Select Browse, and select the wallet you downloaded.
- Select the Test button. The Status at the bottom of the connections list, should show as Success. If the connection is not a success, the wallet is out of date, or the ADB is not currently running.
- Select the Save button.
- Select the Connect button.
Obtaining Support for Oracle Database@AWS
These are the steps to obtain support for Oracle Database@AWS.
- Go to the Amazon Web Services (AWS) dashboard
- Select the Oracle support link on the left-menu.
- This will log you into the OCI Support Center where you can log Technical Support Requests, Billing Support Requests, or Service Limit Requests. As well, you can see and manage any existing support requests.
