Installing Management Agent and Deploying JMS Plug-in
This section describes the process to install the agent software and deploy the Java Management Service plug-in on Oracle Cloud Agent and Oracle Management Agent.
- Learn about the downloaded installers as described in the Download Agent Installer section.
- The Oracle Management Agent Software installer with requisite software includes its own JDK 8, thereby eliminating the need for the host to have JDK 8 installed prior to installing Management Agents. Other installation option requires the host to have met all Agent Prerequisites.
- OCI Linux instances in the same tenancy region are to be configured using Oracle Cloud Agent and do not require pre-installed JDK 8.
The recommended approach for onboarding OCI Linux instances to the fleet is using the fleet's Add Managed Instance(s) action in the Managed Instances view. See instructions in the OCI Linux section in the Manual Method for Installing Management Agent and Deploying JMS Plug-in. For other platforms, JMS plug-in needs to be deployed after installing Oracle Management Agent by any of the following methods:
- Using Oracle Management Agent Software Installer: This is the recommended method for most users. This OMA installer can also install the necessary JDK 8 required for the agent, ensuring a seamless and efficient installation process.
- Using Installation Script: If you already have JDK 8 installed on your managed instances, you can use the provided installation script to configure them to a fleet with a single command.
- Manual Method: This option is for users seeking a custom installation. It offers fine-grained control but requires a higher level of technical expertise.
You can track usage of Java applications running in a container using JMS Fleets by installing management agent and deploying JMS plug-ins on your container host. For details, see Tracking Java Usage in a Container.
