Managing Oracle Radio Geofences

Configure a circular boundary for a Radio channel and choose its automatic subscription settings.

To automate these tasks, use the geofence REST operations.

When geofence administration is available, open the navigation menu and select Channels icon Channels. Each channel can have one configured geofence. The Geofence column shows Not configured, Enabled, or Disabled.

You need access to channel administration and permission to read and manage geofences. Automatic subscriptions also depend on the affected user's permissions, channel access, and reported location. See geofence behavior.

Creating a Geofence

Identify the channel, boundary center, radius, and Identity Domain OCID for the intended Radio users before configuring the geofence.

  1. In Radio, select Channels.
  2. Open the channel's Actions menu and select Add geofence.

The Create geofence dialog identifies the selected channel. If a geofence already exists, select Manage geofence to edit it.

  3. Enter the boundary settings:

Use the following fields to define the geofence boundary and intended membership domain.

    FieldValue
Geofence nameEnter a descriptive name, up to 80 characters.
Membership domainEnter the Identity Domain OCID for the intended Radio users. Verify the value with your administrator; don't assume that a prefilled value identifies your domain.
LatitudeEnter the center latitude from -90 to 90.
LongitudeEnter the center longitude from -180 to 180.
Radius (meters) or Radius (miles)Enter a positive radius in the unit shown. The form converts it to meters and accepts a radius from 25 to 10,000 meters. Follow the displayed validation guidance. To change the display unit, use Units in Radio settings; the geofence API continues to use meters.
  4. To choose the center visually, select a point on the map while Choose the boundary center is displayed.

The selection updates Latitude and Longitude and ends map selection. To choose another point, select Choose center on map. Select Cancel map selection to leave selection mode without choosing a point. You can also enter precise coordinates directly. Dragging or zooming navigates the map without choosing a new center.

  5. Review Boundary preview and its center and radius summary. Use the map's zoom controls as needed.

The preview represents the boundary being configured. Selecting a point doesn't save the geofence. The preview doesn't show device positions. Expand Location details to review the boundary label and radius. If the details message conflicts with the map, see geofence configuration.

  6. Configure the automatic subscription settings:

Use the following settings to control geofence evaluation and saved channel subscriptions.

    SettingEffect
Geofence enabledTurn on to evaluate reported locations against this boundary. Turn off to keep the definition without evaluating it.
Add users when they enterTurn on to allow automatic saved subscriptions for eligible users when a reported location enters the boundary. Channel access and subscription permissions still apply.
Remove users when they exitTurn on to request automatic saved-subscription removal on exit, including a subscription the user added manually. This control is available only when Add users when they enter is on. Leave it off to retain subscriptions after exit.

The boundary preview and the membership message reflect the form settings. Apply the settings by saving the form.

  7. Select Create geofence and check the result message.

Correct any validation error or resolve an access or availability error before continuing. A visible preview alone doesn't indicate success.

  8. Select Close. Verify the channel's geofence status and reopen Manage geofence to review the saved settings.

Changing or Disabling a Geofence

  1. In Radio, select Channels. Open the channel's Actions menu and select Manage geofence.
  2. To move the center on the map, select Reposition boundary, and then select the new center point.

Review the updated latitude and longitude. Map navigation alone doesn't move an existing boundary. Before selecting a point, you can select Cancel map selection to leave the center unchanged. You can also edit the coordinate fields directly.

  3. Update the boundary settings or automatic subscription settings as required. To stop evaluating the boundary while retaining its definition, turn off Geofence enabled.

Turning off Add users when they enter also turns off Remove users when they exit in the form. Disabling a geofence doesn't remove existing channel subscriptions.

  4. Select Save changes and check the result message before closing the dialog.

Removing a Geofence

Removing a geofence stops future evaluation of that boundary. It doesn't delete the channel or remove its existing subscriptions.

  1. In Radio, select Channels. Open the channel's Actions menu and select Manage geofence.
  2. Select Remove.
  3. Review the confirmation and select Remove geofence, or select Keep geofence to cancel.
  4. After successful removal, verify that the channel's Geofence status is Not configured.
