Enable SQL Watch

Here's information on how to enable Database Management SQL Watch for External Databases.

Before you enable SQL Watch, you must:

To enable SQL Watch:

  1. Sign in to the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure console.
  2. Open the navigation menu, click Observability & Management. Under Database Management, click Administration.
  3. On the left pane, select a compartment in the Compartment drop-down list and External in the Deployment type drop-down list.

The External Databases in the compartment are listed on the Managed databases page. These External Databases could have been registered either in the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure External Database service or in Database Management.

    Note

On the Managed databases page, in addition to enabling Database Management features for External Databases, you can also perform the following tasks:
    • Click Register external databases to register an External Database. The option to register External Databases in the Database Management interface uses the same panel as in the External Database service. For information, see Create a Handle for an External Database.
    • Click Connect in the Status column to connect to an already registered External Database. The option to add a connection to an External Database in the Database Management interface is slightly different from the panel in the External Database service. For information, see Add a Connection.
  4. In the SQL Watch column, click Enable.
  5. On the Select database page of the Enable SQL Watch panel:
    1. Review the automatically filled details such as the deployment type, database type and name.
    2. Select an External Database connector from the drop-down list.
      Note

If a connection is not added to the External Database or if you want to use a different connector, click + New connector to add a new connector and select it. For information, see Add a Connection.
    3. Click Next.
  6. On the Review page of the Enable SQL Watch panel, review the selected database and SQL Watch feature details and click Submit.
A View work request button is displayed in the Feature to enable section and you can click it to view the status of the task and associated log messages and error messages, if any.
  7. Click Close to go back to the Managed databases page.

On the Managed databases page, the enablement status is displayed in the SQL Watch column. During the enablement process, the status changes from Disabled to Enabling to Enabled, once it's successfully enabled. On the left pane, click SQL Watch to go to the SQL Watch Overview page and begin using its features.

To disable SQL Watch for an External Database, on the Managed databases page, click the Actions icon (Actions) for the External Database and click View features. In the Features supported on <database name> panel, click Disable in the SQL Watch section. When disabling SQL Watch, the status changes from Enabled to Pending Disable to Disabled. Note that the status remains Pending Disable till the end of the calendar month and SQL Watch is enabled during this time.
