Add a Connection

You can add a connection to enable Database Management SQL Watch.

If a connection to an External Database is not created or if you want to use a different connector to enable SQL Watch, you can use one of the following options on the Administration Managed databases page:

  • Click Connect in the Status column and add a connection.
  • Click Enable in the SQL Watch column and add a connection on the Select database page of the Enable SQL Watch panel.

Note that you must have the required Management Agent permissions to add a connection. For information, see Permissions Required to Enable SQL Watch.

To add a connection on the Select database page of the Enable SQL Watch panel:
  1. On the Managed databases page for External Databases, click Enable in the SQL Watch column. For information, see Enable SQL Watch.
  2. On the Select database page in the Enable SQL Watch panel, click + New connector.
  3. In the Add connection panel:
    1. Provide connector information:
      • Connector display name: Optionally, edit the default name assigned to the connector to help you easily identify the resource.
      • Agent: Select the Management Agent to establish a connection. By default, the compartment selected on the Managed databases page is displayed, however, you can click Change compartment and select another compartment, if required.
    2. Specify connection string information:
      1. DNS hostname or SCAN name: Enter the fully-qualified domain name (FQDN) or IP address for a single instance External Database or the FQDN of the Single Client Access Name (SCAN) listener or the SCAN virtual IP address for a RAC External Database.
      2. Port: Enter the port number.
      3. Service: Enter the service name of the External Database.
      4. Protocol: Select either the TCP or TCPS protocol to connect to the External Database.
      5. TLS secret: Select the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Vault service secret that contains the database wallet from the drop-down list. This field is only displayed if TCPS is selected in the Protocol field. If an existing database wallet secret is not available, then select Create new secret... in the drop-down list. The Create TLS secret panel is displayed and you can create a new secret. For detailed information on how to create a TLS secret in the Vault service, see Create a Connection to an External Database.
    3. Specify the credentials required to connect to the External Database:
      1. User name: Enter the database user name.
        Note

This database user must have certain additional privileges to use SQL Watch. For information on the required privileges, see Perform Prerequisite Tasks.
      2. Database user password: Enter the database user password.
      3. Role: Select the role from the available options.
      4. Credential name prefix: Specify the first part of the full credential name. This value is prefixed to a system-generated credential name to create the full credential name.
      5. Credential name: Review the credential name of the connection.
    4. Click Add connection.
On adding a new connection, you can select it on the Select database page of the Enable SQL Watch panel.
