Automatically Register Target Databases

Overview

Automatically registering target databases simplifies onboarding Oracle databases to Oracle Data Safe by allowing you to register databases at the container database (CDB) level instead of configuring each pluggable database (PDB) individually. After you enable automatic registration, Oracle Data Safe automatically discovers eligible PDBs, registers newly created and existing PDBs in the background, deregisters PDBs that are no longer available (for example, deleted PDBs), and manages the required Data Safe service account and privileges. This policy-based approach reduces administrative effort, provides consistent configuration across large database environments, and helps ensure continuous security coverage as your database fleet evolves.

When you enable automatic registration for a CDB, Oracle Data Safe creates a registration policy for that CDB. The policy defines which PDBs are automatically registered and which Oracle Data Safe features are available to users on those PDBs. Registration policies are listed under Target databases in Oracle Data Safe.

There are two ways to enable automatic registration:

  • From within Oracle Data Safe: Create a registration policy for an existing CDB.
  • From a database console: Enable Oracle Data Safe when creating a CDB or enable it later for an existing CDB. A registration policy for your CDB is automatically created in Oracle Data Safe.

Supported Databases for Automatic Registration

Automatic registration is supported on Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaDB-D).
