FAQs for Managing Frequent Data Refresh V2

This topic lists the frequently asked questions for managing frequent data refresh (FDR) V2.

After completing the frequent data refresh process, which frequently refreshed data is automatically available in the semantic model?

See Automatic Availability of Frequently Refreshed Data in the Semantic Model.

After a frequent data refresh process, in which scenarios do we manually add the frequently refreshed data to the semantic model?

See Manual Addition of Frequently Refreshed Data in the Semantic Model.

Are there examples for enabling frequent data refresh V2 in semantic model extensions?

See Examples of Enabling and Using Frequently Refreshed Data in the Semantic Model.

Which scenarios don’t support frequent data refresh V2?

See Issues with Frequent Data Refresh.

Which modules, prebuilt facts, and adjoined degenerate dimension tables can you configure to automatically add the SME FDR flag?

The frequent data refresh V2 database objects spreadsheet contains:

  • Details of the supported database objects.
  • List of data columns used to construct the lambda objects.

Review the metrics spreadsheet to understand the metrics supported for frequent data refresh V2:

Will a custom subject area derived from a prebuilt subject area, automatically inherit the FDR flag, if the custom subject area uses data from a functional area and fact tables recommended for frequent data refresh?

No. The custom subject area doesn’t automatically include the FDR flag.

To add the FDR flag to the custom subject area, perform these steps:

  1. Navigate to the semantic model extensions configuration page.
  2. In the Available Data Elements section of the custom subject area, expand the "FDR flag" folder.
  3. Add the flag as a filter.

If I don’t enable the functional area for frequent data refresh V2, and I select only the recommended fact table, is the FDR flag automatically available in the semantic model's subject area?

No. You must activate the corresponding module to make the FDR flag available in the semantic model's subject area.

Is the data augmentation table included in the frequent data refresh cross-referenced or linked to any module?

When you enable FDR V2 on any of the following, a link is established in the semantic model between the fact table enabled for frequent data refresh and the corresponding extension. All other data augmentations require manual semantic model extensions.

  • Extended prebuilt fact
  • Adjoined degenerate dimension of a new data augmentations dataset
  • Adjoined degenerate dimension of an existing data augmentation

If a subject area contains multiple fact tables, should we use multiple FDR flags?

No. You can add only one FDR flag to a subject area.

If a subject area has only one FDR flag, will it retrieve intra-day data while querying the related fact table's lambda views?

Yes. The filter on the FDR flag selects intra-day data for all the frequent data refresh supported facts of this functional area in the query.

What's the process for applying the FDR flag to the read-only Oracle Analytics Cloud workbooks delivered with Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence ?

You must create a copy of the prebuilt workbook and then add the FDR flag as a filter to the new version.

In a subject area, if I enable frequent data refresh V2 across a functional area, a recommended fact, and a conformed dimension, what happens to the semantic model?

The FDR flag enabled in the subject area is applicable to the recommended facts and their associated degenerate dimensions. You must manually update the semantic model to switch the conformed dimension to the frequent data refresh table.

Is it possible to display both the newly incremented data and existing data in the report simultaneously without modifying the FDR flag setting on the report itself?

You must select one of the two configurations:

  • Enable the FDR flag and specify the lambda views.
  • Disable the FDR flag and specify the base table.

Lambda views are incomplete during an ongoing incremental data refresh. When an incremental refresh is active, the report’s underlying data, controlled by the FDR flag doesn’t show any data.

Is there an impact on scheduling new frequent data refreshes if the "Manual Execution of Apply System Extensions" global parameter is enabled?

Yes. If you have enabled the Manual Execution of Apply System Extensions global parameter, for the FDR flag to be visible in the subject area, you must apply system extensions. See Apply System Extensions.

In the prebuilt subject area, if I enable the automated frequent data refresh module and the FDR flag is available, will my custom dimension switch from the standard view to the lambda view in the workbook?

If you join your custom dimension to the prebuilt fact, using a standard join, the dimension join will automatically switch between the prebuilt fact and the lambda fact inheriting the join. If you have used a complex join, you must manually define the join between the custom dimension and lambda fact.

If we select only the required modules for FDR and don’t explicitly select any tables for FDR, will the FDR flag still be applied to the corresponding subject area?

Yes. Selecting the required modules for frequent data refresh automatically triggers the process for all FDR V2 supported facts within those modules.

If I only enable a module and no other tables for FDR what is the expected behavior?

The recommended fact tables and their associated (adjoined) degenerate dimensions for the module will be refreshed, and the FDR folder and flag will be applied to them.
